The oldest town in Carinthia

The medieval town of Friesach is about 45 minutes by car from the Murau Gasthof Hotel Lercher.

The medieval bishop's seat of Friesach on the Carinthian-Styrian border is the oldest town in Carinthia, surrounded by the only continuous moat in Austria. At the foot of the Petersberg castle complex and the water-bearing moat, the area provides a wonderful backdrop for many medieval events.

In the show camp of the Medieval Friesach Association life is shown as it might have happened in the Middle Ages. The orchard of the monastery is transformed into a medieval tent camp inhabited by numerous medieval groups from Vienna, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, Styria and Slovenia.

At the large marketplace you can meet merchants and craftsmen from all over the world.

The Friesach Burghofspiele, known far beyond the borders, take place in the upper part of the castle complex on the Petersberg. The Friesach amateur actors bring works of classical world literature to the Burghof stage.
