From Steirerkas to wine and kernel oil
The Murradweg is considered one of the most beautiful river bike paths in the Alpine region. The Murradweg starts in the Hohe Tauern National Park and leads all the way to Croatia. In 2012, the cycle path was even awarded 4 out of 5 possible stars by the ADFC.
The bike trail is divided into 8 stages:
- 1st day stage: Sticklerhütte - Muhr im Lungau
- 2nd day stage: Muhr im Lungau - St. Michael im Lungau - Tamsweg - St. Georgen ob Murau - Murau
- 3rd day stage: Murau - Teufenbach - Scheifling - St. Georgen ob Judenburg - Judenburg
- 4th day stage: Judenburg - Fisching/Weißkirchen - Zeltweg - Knittelfeld - St. Lorenzen bei Knittelfeld - St. Michael in Upper Styria - Leoben
- 5th day stage: Leoben - Oberaich - Bruck an der Mur - Pernegg - Frohnleiten (from here variants on both sides of the river bank to Graz) - Graz
- Stage 6: Graz - Wildon - Leibnitz
- Stage 7: Leibnitz - Mureck - Gosdorf - Halbenrain - Bad Radkersburg
- Stage 8: Bad Radkersburg - Radenci - Stara Nova Vas - Razkrižje - Gibina - Sveti Martin na Muri - Legrad
As a guest at the Murau Gasthof Hotel Lercher you have several possibilities to include parts of the 2nd and 3rd stage of the Murradweg in your day trips.
The path takes you right through the world of wood. Curious about the raw material wood? Then you should venture a visit to the wood museum in St. Ruprecht .
Partial routes can also be covered with the Murtalbahn. The small narrow-gauge railroad offers you a comfortable alternative and lets you enjoy the refreshing breeze along the Mur even more.
Downstream you will find a cozy sandbank for your rest. Listen to the murmur of the Mura. With every meter, the initially small spring becomes a traveling river.
