Our family-run hotel is right in the heart of Murau's historic old town, in Styria. For about 300 years, Lercher's Restaurant has been known for traditional Murau hospitality at the foot of Schlossberg – Murau Castle, owned by the Schwarzenberg family. Come and discover how diverse our region is, from the alpine Niedere Tauern mountains to the gentle giants of the Nockberge and crystal-clear mountain lakes in summer, or enjoy alpine skiing, fun tobogganing, and horse-drawn sleigh rides in winter.

Enjoy some quality family time during the summer holidays or even in the beautiful autumn in Murau. This region is full of adventurous places to explore!

Take a relaxed short hike to explore the area around us. Our local mountain is a fantastic spot for beginners! From the Murauer Hut, you and your kids can reach the top in about an hour and 15 minutes. Your little adventurers can look for the next red-white-red trail markers, watch the cows grazing in the distance, listen to the birds singing, and even help you identify trees at the forest edge. That fresh air will feel amazing!

If you're lucky, you might even find some delicious blueberries and cranberries at the end of August. Snacking on them, time will fly by, and you'll be at the summit before you know it! Once you get there, you'll be treated to an amazing panoramic view. With your family, you can use the stone table to figure out which peaks are around you. Don't forget to sign the summit book and grab a stamp to celebrate your achievement! Then, hungry from your adventure, you'll head back down, already dreaming of a cozy stop at the Murauer Hut.

The kids' tours at Murau Castle are a great way to explore the town's history. You'll even get to go down into the dungeon! Learn all about the Schwarzenberg family (who included a former Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic). As you stroll through town, you'll find the multi-generational playground in the city park. Make sure to set aside some time for your kids to run wild – the trampoline, swing, sandbox, climbing course, and water play area are all ready for them!

How about a bike tour? Hop on the Murtalbahn train to discover the area and ride all the way to Tamsweg. Once you're there, with your bikes ready, the adventure begins! Charming little villages dot the landscape along the Mur river, perfect for a little break. Castles peek out from the forests, sparking all sorts of stories. When you get to Stadl, cool down in the swimming pond. Your kids will be super excited for a refreshing splash! And why not treat yourselves to an ice cream before you continue your journey?

In Styria's most forested region, you absolutely have to visit the Wood Museum. Explore everything about wood, a renewable resource, at your own pace. And don't forget to stop by the wood and water playground – your kids will have a blast! (Just remember to bring a change of clothes!) Fancy climbing through the trees? Then the Oberwölz High Ropes Course is perfect for you and your family. With 10 different courses, you can really test your courage! And you'll even get to zoom over the Wölzerbach stream on a zipline. A little bit of excited screaming is totally allowed! Get ready, your kids will love this adventure. Oh, and the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is also definitely worth a visit!

On a mild evening like this, you can comfortably end the day with your loved ones outside on the larch terrace.

If alpine sports ever get a bit much for you and your little ones, you should definitely try uphill tobogganing! It's a really special experience where you can rent toboggans from the Tonnerhütte on Zirbitzkogel and then ride up the mountain on a special drag lift. Your kids will be super excited – no boring climbing! Once you're at the top, you can choose from 4 different toboggan runs for your ride down, ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 meters long. You and your kids will casually hop on your toboggans and zoom down the slopes. Snow will spray in the curves from the sharp runners, your competitive spirit will kick in, and you'll be laughing all the way down to the valley as you race your family!

How about an adventure? Feel like a hunter and go on a 'hunt' with your kids! In about 10 minutes, you'll reach St. Lorenzen am Kreischberg. Even in winter, you can 'hunt' 30 3D figures there and test your archery skills. You'll quickly find out it's not as easy as it seems!

On your snow trip to the Murau region, there's something for everyone, big and small. Right outside our door, snowmen are already waiting to be built!

Get excited for family-friendly slopes at Kreischberg, Lachtal, or Grebenzen during the Christmas and semester holidays. Fun ski lessons for kids, and adults too, are ready for you! At the bottom of the ski hills, you can pick out all your gear at the ski rental.

Your kids will zoom through the adventure courses on skis or snowboards. These little racers are already competing with their parents! They skillfully navigate one gate after another on the permanent race track. On the speed track, the little ones might not quite keep up with their parents' speed yet. Cozy huts and restaurants in the ski areas are perfect for a comfy break and a bite to eat. Once you're all warmed up and dry, it's time for the next adventure. All that playing in the snow sure makes you tired!
