Snuggled up in your hood, gloves and warm winter coat, hike along the numerous winter hiking trails. Keep your cardiovascular system on its toes and try out the classified cross-country ski trails around the Weirerteich. The glittering ice crystals and the rays of the warming sun will accompany you.

Together with your friends and the whole family you will toboggan rapidly uphill and downhill the natural toboggan runs. The region of Murau padded in absorbent cotton is waiting for you.

Gentle tracks stretch along the mountain slopes. Step by step with the skins on your skis or with big bear paws on your feet you will get closer to the sky. Enjoy the dreamlike sports in the middle of the silent nature. Once you reach your destination, you will be rewarded by a magnificent panorama of the Tauern mountains and the Carinthian basin all the way to Slovenia.

You are gently kissed awake by the rising sun in the garden rooms. Opening the windows, the clear and pure air flows into the room and lets you breathe deeply. Leisurely you stroll into the restaurant to the breakfast buffet and hear the fuzzy warm smell of brewed coffee and fresh pastries. You can already enjoy your Sunday breakfast with homemade baked goods and preserves. Strengthened and rested, you can now actively organize your day in the fresh air, but only as long as you feel like it.

Early in the morning you are the first on the ski slopes at Kreischberg or a surrounding ski area. You wedel, glide or carve the perfectly groomed slopes downhill. As a small and large slope flitzer you use the opportunity to expand your talents at our ski schools or to distinguish yourself in freestyle. 

Gently you draw your tracks along the mountain slopes, step by step you get closer to the peaks. Once you have arrived, the Niedere Tauern, Nockberge and Karawanken mountains lie at your feet. The warming tea strengthens you from the inside. Past snow-covered trees and idyllic winter scenery you whiz down into the valley. Refreshment such as a Murau wheat beer is already waiting for you.

In the afternoon you take the opportunity to strengthen your body holistically. Slowly you glide over the white glittering carpet and make your loops on the perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails. You listen intently to the crunch of the snow under your skis and the sound of the wind in the trees. The movement makes you feel your body.

Thickly wrapped in your warm winter clothes armed with gloves, you set out to sled. Without much effort you reach your starting point. Casually you swing onto your toboggan and rapidly take the curves down into the valley. Your laughter can be heard far and wide.

Once back at the hotel, you deserve a little rest. You warm up your frozen body with a small sauna session in the intimate relaxarium or take a pleasant bath. Suddenly you come across your favorite book that you brought with you. You have time! Curiosity overtakes you and you can hardly wait to find out the end of the story. As your stomach begins to growl, you tear yourself away. Only now do you realize how hungry you are. Today's recommendations are already waiting at your table with a small sweet nibble to finish. With a selected glass of wine or sip of beer you let the evening come to an end.

Satisfied and happy, you go to your room and are already excited about the next day.

The Murau hotel Gasthof Lercher is easy and uncomplicated to reach. The snow-sure idyll is located in the middle of the Nockberge and Niedere Tauern in the heart of Austria, Styria. The easiest way to reach the border triangle (Styria, Carinthia and Salzburg) is via the Tauern freeway and Tamsweg from Salzburg and via the Murtalschnellstraße, Judenburg and Scheifling from Vienna and Graz. You can also reach us comfortably by train from Vienna and Graz. Already arriving with the Murtalbahn takes a little wind out of your souls. We will gladly pick you up from the train station in Murau. The combination of high alpine terrain and gentle winter landscapes in the valleys makes the Murau region unique. The well-known winter sports resort with former Ski Jumping World Cup and Combination World Cup offer you a wonderful starting point for your active winter vacation.

To the journey

The picturesque historic old town invites you to linger. The Mur meanders through the town like a green ribbon. The Renaissance castle of Murau and the Gothic parish church with beautiful old frescoes tower majestically over the roofs. During your tour of the town, you will cross the Mursteg bridge to the modern district administration (Markus Tschapeller), the frozen Leonhardi pond and the Murau brewery (CO²-free cooperative brewery). Let yourself be surprised by the variety of cultural, historical and culinary gems.

During your stay in the Murau region you kill 3 birds with one stone. The favorite Styrian ski resorts Kreischberg, Lachtal and Grebenzen are in the immediate vicinity.

If you ever get tired of winter sports on the mountain, enjoy our insider tips and discover the beautiful ice skating rinks in and around Murau. Turn pirouettes on the ice with your partner, to the music of nature, or compete with your friends and family in curling.
