Just a few steps down into our wine cellar, and suddenly the atmosphere changes. It becomes quieter, a little cooler, almost a bit more relaxed. Just the way it should be.
At Gasthof Lercher in Murau, the wine cellar isn’t a staged space, but one that has evolved naturally. It’s a place that has taken shape over the years and continues to develop. We don’t simply buy our wines; we carefully select them—often through personal encounters and long-standing relationships.
Our Wine Selection
Deeply rooted in the region, yet with a broad perspective.
The focus is clearly on Austria, particularly Styria and Burgenland—regions known for their authentic, characterful wines. We particularly enjoy serving Sauvignon Blanc from Southern Styria, such as those from the Tement family, whose wines are known for their clarity and terroir. We also appreciate the Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling wines from the Wachter-Wiesler family in Southern Burgenland, with whom we also have a personal connection.
Our selection is complemented by a range of fine wines from Italy, France, and Slovenia. Among them are often small, rare bottles—especially from Bordeaux—that have their own special place in the cellar.
Natural wines with character
One area that is particularly close to our hearts is natural wine. Unadulterated in their nature, sometimes unfamiliar, often surprising—but always full of character. We love these wines because they aren’t smooth. Because they have rough edges. And because that’s exactly why they stick in your memory.

A full-bodied Blaufränkisch to pair with game, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc with fish, or a natural wine that adds a whole new dimension to a dish. We’re happy to offer advice, but never pushy. And sometimes the best pairing simply comes up in conversation.
