Snowshoeing on the Frauenalpe
Where you can't get on the snow-covered Frauenalpe with normal shoes, you will definitely reach your destination with snowshoes. And the most important thing is, previous knowledge is not necessary. Simply strap on the snowshoes and off you go on a tour through the beautiful winter landscape. The equipment can be rented at the Kreischberg valley station (about 30 minutes from Frauenalpe).
For anyone who prefers to climb the mountain in a group, there is the possibility to participate in guided snowshoe hikes. Here you will be accompanied by professionals from the region and the other participants during the hike. At the beginning of the hike you will receive snowshoe equipment, so you do not need to rent separately in advance.
Snowshoeing around the Hotel Lercher
Explore the Styrian nature once in a completely different way. The natural snow paradise Frauenalpe offers you your optimal starting point for your snowshoe hikes in the middle of the Niedere Tauern and Nockberge mountains.
Via the cleared mountain road you reach the local mountain of the Murau people over 8 km. Packed in thick winter clothes you start your winter adventure in the free and untouched nature away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Directly at the Murauer Hütte you can safely park your car and start.
The ancient, rediscovered means of transportation gives you a variety of options. Whether you're a trial-hungry beginner or a practiced pro the glistening trails will lead you to your destination. You dive through the snow-covered forests and mash on free alpine pastures. If you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of wildlife, like the hare hopping back and forth, a shy doe or a nimble chamois. You follow the tracks on the padded slopes. Individually you can adjust your tours up to the summit and around, according to your requirements. Take a deep breath in the cool winter air. At the end, don't forget to make a detour to the rustic Murauer Hütte.
To get acquainted and for professionals, the Suli Snowboard School offers a half-day guided snowshoe hike between Christmas and Easter. You will receive snowshoes and poles directly from the snowboard school. At the end there is a mulled wine. But also the Ski School Wirnsberger promises daily guided snowshoe and winter hikes depending on the weather.
Ski touring on the Frauenalpe
Since the ski slope is no longer used for skiing, there are now ski tours to explorealong, but also off, the slope for all winter sports enthusiasts. All those who are going on a ski tour for the first time will find the right tour on the Frauenalpe. But also for the experienced winter sportsmen there is the right thing here in the winter paradise.
Important for all ski touring - beginners
Before you leave for the tour, check the weather conditions and the avalanche report. The right equipment you should also have in any case, so do not forget these utensils:
- Ski helmet
- Emergency equipment with avalanche transceiver, avalanche probe and avalanche shovel
- Ski backpack with a change of clothes, food and enough liquid
A small tip at the end. As a beginner, you should not always choose the longest and most difficult route. In difficult downhill conditions, the forces can run out very quickly. Therefore, take precautions and start with shorter and easier tours.
