Fishing in the Mur River

In the Murau - Kreischberg region, you're allowed to fish in two areas of the Mur River:

Bodendorf Weir
St. Georgen Weir

Bodendorf Weir

 The Bodendorf Weir is a 2 km long, gently flowing stretch of water with access points on both banks.

  • Length: 2.3 km from Kraftweg Bodendorf to Wandritsch Bridge
  • Fish Species: Brown trout and rainbow trout, with occasional grayling.
  • Bait: All fishing methods allowed under the Styrian Fishing Law. No live bait, multiple hooks, or embedded bait. Barbs must be flattened. No lead below the bait. Tyrolean Hölzl and similar fishing methods are also forbidden.

St. Georgen Weir

The St. Georgen backwater is a super calm 2.5 km long stretch in the Mur river.

  • Length: 2.5 km between the St. Georgen and Bodendorf power plants
  • Fish Species: Brown trout and rainbow trout, with occasional grayling.
  • Baits & Lures: You can use all fishing methods allowed by the Styrian Fishing Law. But no live bait, multiple hooks, or set lines. Make sure your barbs are flattened. No lead weights below your bait. Also, methods like 'Tiroler Hölzl' and similar rigs are not allowed.
