The wood museum is about 15 minutes by car from the Murau Gasthof Hotel Lercher!
Since 1988, a museum of a special kind has stood in the middle of the Styrian Wood World. It is a unique place, not only to learn everything about the raw material wood, but also as an exciting destination for the whole family. Handicraft workshops, water-wood playground, arboretum (tree garden with over 70 woody plants) and many exhibits on several levels and buildings.
The museum is perfect for the whole family, because it is not an exhibition in the traditional sense, but an experience for laymen and professionals. A great program with works, crafts, bowling, nailing, walking on stilts and much more is waiting for you.
The idea behind it was introduced in 1984 by the association"Styrian Wood Museum". The aim was to give wood a higher status in the life of modern man again.
