Ski Touring & Winter Hiking

The Murau - Kreischberg region is nestled gently among beautiful mountains, making it the perfect holiday spot for passionate ski tourers. Here, winter fun off the slopes is guaranteed. You can even go on guided ski tours in this holiday region.

The Tauern and Nockberge mountains offer plenty of opportunities for ski tourers to get active in winter. On your ski tour, you can explore peaks like the 2,740 m high Preber on the border to Lungau, the well-known 2,396 m high Zirbitzkogel, and the 2,474 m high Greim. In summer, you'll find lots of hikers here.

After your tour, you can warm up at Lercher's Restaurant with a nice hot cup of tea. We'll also serve you something sweet from the menu. Afterwards, you can wind down your day with a visit to our own wellness area.

The Grebenzen is super popular for both longer and shorter ski tours. The huts along the way are perfect for a stop and a bite to eat while you're ski touring.

This tour is rated as moderate. It's about 6.75 km long and takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes. You'll start at the Grebenzen "Pabstin" cable car valley station, which is 1,000 m high in St. Lambrecht. You can park right there. Your destination is the Grebenzen Schutzhaus, located at 1,680 m above sea level.

The Dreiwiesenhütten ski tour is perfect for a quick trip or for training, and it offers several great spots for skiing down.

This challenging tour is 7.11 km long and takes about 2 hours to complete. You'll start at the Grebenzen "Pabstin" cable car valley station, which is 1,000 m high in St. Lambrecht. Parking is available right there. Your goal is the Dreiwiesenhütte, located on the first Grebenzen peak.

After all the winter fun, you can relax with a massage in the wellness area of Murauer Gasthof Hotel Lercher. Afterwards, treat yourself to a cozy meal with wine from Lercher's Wine Cellar. For the rest of your winter vacation, there are a ski resort or two to explore in the region.

The Frauenalpe, Murau's local mountain, is well-known among ski tourers and snowshoe enthusiasts. As soon as the first snow falls, a fantastic circular snowshoe tour awaits us here.

What makes this tour so special is the gentle climb up to the Troghütte, the wide-open spaces near the summit, the amazing views from the almost 2000 m high peak, and all the different ways you can descend. You'll start at the parking lot by the Murauer Hütte, which is at 1583 m. After a great day of snowshoeing on the Frauenalpe, we suggest a short stroll through Murau's old town – you've had enough exercise already! – and maybe a stop at Hotel Lercher for a bite.
