Family-friendly Alpine Hike on Gstoder

The starting point is about a 15-minute drive from Murauer Gasthof Hotel Lercher!

A moderately difficult but still family-friendly hike on alpine trails to the summit of Gstoder. We recommend visiting the St. Ruprecht Wood Museum during this hike. The best time for this hike is from May to October, or even November if the weather is nice.

After an active day, you'll be spoiled with culinary delights at Lercher's Restaurant. True to the motto: Styrian cuisine with Austrian variety and a touch of vision. You can unwind in the cozy atmosphere of the dining room. And of course, a glass of wine from Lercher's Wine Cellar is a must.

Alpine Hiking in the Murau Kreischberg Region

From St. Ruprecht, a toll road leads to your starting point, the Koasahütte snack station. This family-friendly hike takes you along alpine trails to the summit of Gstoder. To the right and left of the path, you can admire the beautiful larch forest and, in early summer, the blooming alpine roses. Your kids will also spot busy ants building huge mounds next to the red-white-red trail markers.

The provincial border between Styria and Salzburg runs directly over the summit. This 'border guard' between the Murau and Lungau districts offers breathtaking views at 2,140m above sea level of the surrounding mountains, from the Niedere Tauern in the north to the Karawanken in the south. Back at your starting point, a cozy stop at the Koasahütte awaits you.

We recommend visiting the St. Ruprecht Wood Museum during this hike. Discover the raw material wood. Exciting, changing themed exhibitions are worth a trip for the whole family.

Tip: Try out the wood and water playground. Don't forget to pack a second set of clothes for your kids. The best time for this hike is from May to October, or even into November if the weather is nice.
