Enjoy dreamlike views
The Murau local mountain is a dreamlike view mountain for young and old. The easy hike in almost tree-free terrain leads along forest and alpine paths. During your hike you can watch the leisurely grazing cows to the right and left of the path - don't worry, keep a respectful distance. You also do not want to be disturbed unnecessarily while eating.
On the colorful meadows you will discover many different grasses and flowers. If in the summer months a tart and spicy scent stings your nose, you are on the trail of the medicinal plant Speick. The inconspicuous plant enjoys popularity especially because of its balancing effect. Along the path you will pass a fenced-in stand of Swiss stone pines. Isn't it amazing how much time this beautiful tree needs to unfold compared to a spruce?
The crystal-clear and ice-cold spring at the wayside strengthens you for the last meters. Arrived at the summit you will discover the cozy Bernhard Festhütte (not managed alpine club hut) and the small Apollonia chapel. Every 1st Sunday in August the mountain mass takes place at the Frauenalm. So that you can orientate yourself a little, there is a beautiful stone table at the summit with the different peaks of the surroundings. In late summer, venture down the Salzsteigweg trail. Up to the spring you can snack on one huckleberry and cranberry after another. During your excursion into the mountains, a stop for refreshments is not to be missed.
Tip: Visit the rustic Murau hut.
The best period for this hike is from May to October, or in November if the weather is nice - depending on the weather.
